The advancement of sustainable agriculture in Brazil has gained momentum with the expansion of the use of bio-inputs. In line with this movement, the Innovar Group is proud to be a partner of Embrapa Milho e Sorgo in setting up a new pilot plant for the production of bio-inputs in Sete Lagoas (MG).
Inaugurated in May 2025, the Embrapa Biofactory marks a new chapter in the production of biological solutions for pest control, contributing directly to reducing the use of chemical pesticides and promoting healthier and more regenerative practices in the field.
This new biofactory was set up with the technical support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Innovar Group, which provided part of the structure and knowledge needed to make this initiative a benchmark in technology applied to the production of bioinputs.
The unit is equipped with a modern benchtop bioreactor, capable of carrying out simultaneous microbiological fermentations.
In addition to small-scale production, the space will also be used for technical training, technology validation and formulation testing, reinforcing the commitment to knowledge transfer and open innovation.
Embrapa Milho e Sorgo, recognized for its scientific excellence, has one of the largest collections of microorganisms of agricultural interest in the country, with around 11,000 preserved accessions.
This biodiversity is the basis for the development of bioinoculants, bioinsecticides and other biological products with high added value, aimed at controlling pests, diseases and environmental stresses.
Using these microorganisms, Embrapa has already developed and launched 14 biological products registered with MAPA, most notably BiomaPhos - the first Brazilian inoculant
phosphate solubilizer, which has generated more than R$ 4.2 billion in benefits for Brazil in recent years.
The creation of the Embrapa Biofactory is fully in line with the National Bioinputs Program, launched in 2020 by MAPA, and with the new Law 15.070/2024, which establishes the legal framework for the production, commercialization and use of bioinputs in Brazil.
More than a physical structure, this biofactory is an integral part of a larger ecosystem: the Bioinput Innovation Network (BioFabLabs), which connects public institutions, universities, private companies and farmers around sustainable biological solutions.
The Innovar Group's participation in this initiative reinforces its strategic role as a bridge between the productive sector and applied science.
With more than 20 years' experience in bioprocess engineering, the company is a national benchmark in the development of equipment, reagents and technologies aimed at the production of bio-inputs with high quality standards, such as the exclusive BioEvolve® bioreactor - a practical and automated system that enables the safe and efficient production of fungi and bacteria directly on the farm.
This partnership with Embrapa represents not only a technical advance, but also a commitment to the future of Brazilian agriculture. A future where science, sustainability and innovation go hand in hand to guarantee safer food, livelier soils and more efficient and resilient production in the face of climate challenges.
The Innovar Group is proud to contribute to this journey, bringing living solutions to the field and promoting, together with strategic partners, a new generation of biological technologies for national agriculture.
